Location:  Portsmouth / Bristol – Hybrid

Reports to: Head of Engineering

Salary: £55,000+ experience dependent 

Security Clearance Requirements: BPSS minimum SC preferable (with the ability to obtain DV clearance)

Purpose

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the MATLAB Engineer provides support to Metaverse VR (MVR) projects.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, development and implementation of complex system models in accordance with best practices in MATLAB
  • Working closely with the Systems Engineering and development teams to ensure that all Algorithms and simulation developments can be realised within technical products.
  • Preparing technical material to document code, algorithms and simulation results and present the information at technical reviews.
  • Applying mathematical principles to develop physics models of real-world systems.
  • Assisting in the development and ongoing maintenance of internal MVR Engineering Processes

Ideally, the candidate will predominantly be a practitioner in the left-hand side of the Vee lifecycle, including:

  • Requirement decomposition.
  • Logical, functional, and physical architectures
  • Systems Modelling Language (using Enterprise Architect)
  • Analytical approach and able to develop physics mathematical models in support of development implementation (use of MatLab)

 

Specialist Knowledge and Essential Skills

Essential Skills:

  • Proven experience in the use of MATLAB, Simulink and Simscape to design, develop and implement complex systems by creation of high fidelity mathematical models
  • Experience in modelling drone functional behaviour including:
    • High fidelity drone simulation in MATLAB.
    • Design, implementation and test of flight control systems in Simulink and Simscape.
    • Ability to develop and test autonomous control algorithms including path planning, obstacle avoidance and sensor fusion.
    • Data Acquisition from drone flight tests.
  • Development of drone synthetic environments including wind, temperature, GPS, signal strength models.
  • Experience in Integration, Test and Verification and ‘selling off’ the verification information to stakeholders
  • An understanding of synthetic training solutions
  • Knowledge of agile methodologies, tools and techniques
  • Experience in technical report and documentation writing, and the subsequent presentation of these to internal and external stakeholders
  • Understanding of the system engineering lifecycle and associated principles
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering processes, tools and techniques
