The Role

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Systems Engineer will be responsible for technically leading Metaverse VR (MVR) projects. You will be responsible for collection and presentation of evidence at each of the technical gates. You will also work with the project managers to ensure that the project is meeting its scheduled and cost constraints whilst bidding for resource support whilst ensuring that the resources are effectively employed within the project.

Key Responsibilities

Consultancy:

  • Lead and coordinate the technical ownership of design, development and implementation of complex systems, throughout the development lifecycle in accordance with best practices in Defence acquisition.
  • Apply and lead systems engineering processes, including leading technical reviews, across the full lifecycle phases, including:
    • Concept and assessment.
    • Requirements definition and management.
    • System architecture and design.
    • Integration, verification, and validation.
    • In-service support and disposal.
  • Maintain traceability between requirements, design, implementation, and verification evidence
  • Working closely with the PM, company leadership and cross-functional teams to ensure that all project/product requirements are met
  • Providing engineering guidance and management of subcontractors and the technical review of provided information/material/products.
  • Developing, maintaining and controlling engineering documentation including Requirements documentation, system architectures, design documents, test and acceptance plans, product conformance and bill of materials.
  • Providing engineering/technical direction to projects and the wider business
  • Leading feasibility studies and writing technical reports
  • Developing and ongoing maintenance of internal MVR Engineering Processes
  • Additional tasks to ensure the success of the role and support to the Business

Specialist Knowledge and Specialist Skills

Essential:

  • Proven experience in the specification, design, development and implementation of complex systems and the management of the specifications through to completion.
  • Previous experience in multiple Systems Engineering roles across the engineering lifecycle.
  • In-depth understanding of the system engineering lifecycle and associated principles.
  • Ability to understand and interpret the operational context of customer requirements.
  • Ability to develop, system architectures using appropriate tools (such as MatLab Sparx EA) and modelling language (such as SysML)
  • Experience in customer product acceptance.
  • Demonstrable experience of producing technical report and documentation writing, and the subsequent presentation of these to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with UK defence frameworks, governance, policies, processes, publications and standards

Desireable:

  • Awareness of the systems engineering lifecycle and core principles.
  • Practical experience with agile methodologies, tools and techniques.
  • Ability to understand and interpret customer and operational requirements with guidance.
  • Basic understanding of system architectures and modelling approaches (e.g. SysML, Sparx EA).
  • Basic understanding of mathematical modelling tools such as: MatLab/Simulink/State Chart.
  • Awareness of integration, test, and verification activities.
  • Familiarity with agile concepts and engineering tools.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and must be IT literate.
  • An understanding of synthetic training solutions within defence, as well as Naval defence platforms/systems.
  • Experience working a Defence environment
