The Role

The Commercial Officer provides hands-on commercial and contractual support across a growing and diverse portfolio of projects, from opportunity identification through to contract completion and close-out. Operating within a fast-paced SME environment, the role combines day-to-day commercial administration with the opportunity to take increasing ownership of contracts, suppliers and bids as experience develops.

The role exists to support robust commercial, contractual and supply chain operations across the organisation, ensuring disciplined governance, regulatory compliance, and effective risk management. Working closely with Finance, the COO and delivery teams, the Commercial Officer maintains the contractual and supplier records that underpin governance, supports bid submissions with accurate commercial input, and helps ensure consistent best-practice ways of working across the business.

This is a genuine development role. You will be given real responsibility from the outset, with the support and structure to grow into broader commercial leadership as MVR scales.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

  • Day to day administration of commercial matters relating to head contract and subcontracts/supply chain orders
  • Change control
  • Monitoring of key schedule, reporting obligations and contract processes
  • Following company commercial processes
  • Ensuring appropriate commercial governance
  • Engagement with Divisional commercial/legal teams
  • Reviewing and preparing negotiating positions on customer Terms and Conditions, Framework Agreements
  • Preparation and securing approval of commercial proposals for change notes, tasks and tenders

Specialist Knowledge and Specialist Skills

Essential:

  • Anticipated 3–5 years post degree relevant experience.
  • Pre and post contract management experience.
  • Being a pivotal part of any bid team.
  • Negotiating contract change.
  • Deriving continuous improvement and value for money from existing contracts.
  • Knowledge and experience of UK MOD procurement process.
  • PINs, DPQQ, ITT and ITN processes.
  • Experience of negotiating with UK MOD in dialogue sessions.
  • Ability to interpret, draft and negotiate standard Terms and Conditions.
  • Comfortable working up and down the supply chain.
  • Experience of MOD DEFCONs.
  • Experience of drafting and negotiating pre-contract Agreements, MoUs, Teaming Agreements, etc.
  • Ability to interpret relatively complex financial models and understand price builds, with a view to articulating pricing strategies to senior management.
  • General business acumen. Identifying commercial risk and able to recognise a sound, defensible commercial position.
 
Education: 
  • Graduate qualification in Law, Business or Finance desirable (or equivalent level of experience).

Desireable:

  • Knowledge of other public sector procurement processes.
  • UK export/import regulations.
  • ITAR.
  • Working with foreign entities and governments’ procurement processes.
  • Good communications and teamwork.
  • Member of IACCM or CIPS professional body.
