A year ago, Dawid Sikora was in the early stages of a one-year work placement at the MVR Academy. Today, he starts his first day as a full-time Metaverse VR 3D artist.

This is a huge milestone for me,” he said.

“Being part of the MVR Academy has been such a positive experience. It has allowed me to work alongside industry professionals and learn new skills to help me grow as a 3D artist.

“And today, I will essentially be starting my first job in the industry. It is a great feeling knowing I am on the right path to fulfilling my career ambitions.”

The MVR Academy was created to give talented students a route into the industry and to support the next generation of developers, artists and programmers.

Building skills through real industry experience

Sikora, who joined in his second year of a Computer Games Art BA (Hons) course at the University of Portsmouth, believes the programme has been central to his development.

“It is really valuable to have programmes like the MVR Academy offering placement opportunities to students.

“It opens doors, provides real experience and connects you to people who can accelerate your development.

“Working for Metaverse VR has taught me so many new things and given me real-world industry experience during my university studies.”

Taking on responsibility and delivering solo projects

Although his placement began in a junior role, Sikora showed promise from the start.

He was quickly trusted to work as the solo artist on several key projects, something he sees as a defining moment in his year at the Academy.

“Working on solo projects with strict deadlines has been my main highlight,” he said.

“It shows that in a single year I have built enough trust and demonstrated the skills needed for the team to give me important work, even as a placement student.”

A milestone for the MVR Academy

Doug Wager 3D Modeller and MVR Academy Liaison highlights, Sikora’s progression from placement to permanent role reflects exactly what the Academy was designed to achieve.
